Cupcake Frenzy

One of my favorite things to do is to make cakes. But one of the things I am constantly asked to do is to make cupcakes. I love the baking process, so fun and easy. But the decorating for me tends to me more time consuming since I must decorate each one individually. The overall result though is so gratifying though. Here are some of my favorites.

This was for an Alice in Wonderland themed birthday party. "Eat Me!"

I loved the concept for the cupcakes. My favorite part was the 1 life preserver surrounded by all the shark fins!!

These superhero cupcakes were so cool.  BAM!

This was a challenging cupcake theme since it was for a baby shower and the sex was unknown. We went with a festive colorful theme! (She had a boy, by the way!)

Wedding shower cupcakes. Loved their Disney's Tiki Room theme! Who doesn't love the Enchanted Tiki Room?!?

This was for my sister's babyshower. The theme was "mommy-to-bee" and of course the cupcakes were topped with a bit of honey!

Christmas at the Changs

Here is a sneak peak of my house through the eyes of my iphone.
I have yet to get a great camera to take all my pictures, so my iphone will do for the time being.

I made the "Joy to the World" banner and the ring garland on my mantle. I went with red, green, and gold colors this year for Christmas. It seemed very festive for my first Christmas at my house.

My mom gave me the tiny light up town. My mom always put it out for Christmas and it kind of reminds me of Christmas at my parents.  I just love it! The wreath is something I made with leftover branches from my Christmas tree. I had sparkly stuff in a bag and decided to make the wreath shimmer.
Also, I was very excited about putting up Christmas lights! My first time ever and it was so fun!

Loving Personalized Pillows

While I was on Etsy today, one thing I saw were many decorative pillows, and noticed how many different ways to personalize pillows. What a great idea to give your home some extra meaning!

These scrabble inspired pillows hit a soft spot for me. I am a scrabble fan, and this caught my attention right away! I love that you can make your own words too!

This silhouette pillow is so sweet. I think it would be perfect for a family.

Anything embroidered is fun and adds a homey feel to a house, but to have the state that holds your heart is just great! I love it because I am forever and always a California girl.

Initial pillows are personalization to the max. I can see this is pillow in my master bedroom. I love the burlap and heart, too!

Which one of these was your favorite?

DIY Snow Globe

I have been seeing these DIY snow globes on pinterest since last year. I want to make many more, but I needed to test it out on one first.

I used 4 items only to make the snow globe
Empty jar
Glue gun
Any fun ornament
(okay...technically 5 items if you want to count the water as well!)

I hot glued the bottom of my nutcracker ornament to the bottom of the jar lid.

Then I added all my assortment of glitter into the jar. At Michael's they sell the assorted glitter samples set for $2. I like the different glitter textures more, but whatever you have is just as good.

Then I filled the jar will water and twisted the jar lid back on a shook my DIY snow globe!

Here's the finished product. It is so very easy. I put it on my mantle for now. I cannot wait to make more! Enjoy!

Bathroom Mood Board

Here is my bathroom mood board for today. Barnyard chic is a style I love, but my house and the area I live in doesn't really go with this style too much. But a girl can dream. Also, not sure how much my husband would like this. It's a bit girly, but has a vintage feel as well. The soft colors of blush is elegant,  and the pops of blue and green is definitely more modern.

Bathroom Redo

Our guest bathroom was a project we kept on the back burner....not exactly sure why we didn't work on it sooner, but I'm so glad it's done now! It is a half bathroom and the only bathroom down stairs.

The reason I didn't feel like tackling it was because it was filled with this ugly leaf wallpaper and I knew it would be lots of work and I probably would get frustrated. Turns out I was right, and it was  more frustrating than I anticipated.
Ugly, right?? I think these people were stuck in 90's, but in the worst possible way!

The part that was most frustrating was that the wallpaper was pretty stuck on the wall, and removing it was actually damaging the wall. The plaster was probably really old that it starting coming off with the wallpaper. If I had not taken all the wallpaper off in the other rooms in our house, I probably would have thought I was doing it wrong, but I knew it was this particular wallpaper that was just old and not budging.
If you look closely, you can see the wall damage caused by the wall paper. We knew we probably would have to get someone to re-plaster. It was the ongoing project we told people we "working on" since they were forced to use the bathroom, but the bathroom actually stayed this way for a months. Please don't judge us!

Finally, plastered bathroom. They had to remove the sink in order to plaster properly. I actually made sure to paint while they sink was still not installed to make my life a little easier.

And this is the finished painted room. I went with a greyish/blue color from Lowes. I actaully can't remember the name. Oops! And this toilet got replaced with a new toilet. Yay! As you can see, this toilet is a bulky for such a small half bathroom.

Here's our somewhat finished bathroom! I'm just so happy the leafy/vine wall is gone. It felt claustrophobic before. Here's the new toilet, our fleshly painted walls, and we also added this bathroom shelf since we have no real counter space.

At some point we want to change the sink, and get more a cabinet sink set since the sink is angled and outdated. But for the moment, this totally works compared to before.

Our over the toilet cabinet. I changed the knobs to vintage crystal knobs I got at Lowes on clearance for $1.00! I still need art work on the walls, but more on that later!

I am extremely happy we painted our last final room in our house. Won't be the last time I use a paint brush, but I am happy our house looks completed.

Our bathroom is still in progress, but I am so happy with it now. Only took us 4 months to finally change it. Have you had a project you procrastinated that long for?

Book into my Nook

Books just make me so happy. I just started to unpack all of our books from the move, and realized I need to do something with all them. Mr. Chang, of course, wanted a library. We have a room set to do that in, but apparently not all the books fit on all the shelves so I decided to look up what other creative ways to add books into decorating.

Framing some of your favorites is such a creative idea!

Who needs a table when you can make a coffee table or side table out of books! What a fun project.

One of my favorite things to do with books is add height to other decor items on a coffee table.

Making shelves with books??? I love this idea! Possibly my next project!

This cart reminds me of bookstores and I love how they added the books and decorative elements into their foyer!

Do you have a creative way of decorating with books? Just go for it!

Gold Rush

I have been wanting to spray paint something for quite sometime. I wanted to try it on something I wouldn't be afraid to ruin. So, when I moved into my house, there was this old metal shelf that I was almost going to throw out. It was this ugly brown color so I wanted to transform it gold!

I cleaned it up, let it dry and got some flat boxes so I can start spray painting.

Here's a close up of the brown metal shelf.

                                                       Getting ready to spray paint!

This was less than $4 at Home Depot.

This was after. I still need to coat it one more time and decide where exactly it is going to go! But if there is a color issue with anything you have, you should not worry. Spray paint, paint, or stain is so easy and can transform a room.

Mirror Mirror

Oh, mirrors! As a kid, I thought decorative mirrors in a house were such a "mom thing" to do. They didn't seem cute or stylish to me. Now, I am all about mirrors in my house.
Here are some of a few I have been looking at on Etsy.

I love this mirror. I love the oversized sunburst feel.
I love this mirror that looks like a window. The illusion is so fun!

This has to be one of my favorites. Love the garland look. It makes the room more playful.
This mirror makes a statement! This vintage carved out piece can be a show stopper in any room.

Rugging Out

I have been on a search for a rug for our living room. Most rugs I did like were over $200. And since we just bought a house and have been spending money with other things, I had to put getting the rug on the back burner.

I saw a rug at Lowe's on clearance for $49. I was unsure of it, so I decided not to get it. But I had this gut feeling I should have gotten in. The only reason I really didn't get it was because it was rolled up and I really couldn't tell how the rug would look. Then I saw it on a blog I read, Bower Power and thought, "Wow, that looks so good and it's only $49!! I went back to go look for t, and it was back at $98! BOOO!

I went to another Lowe's to see if maybe they would have it on sale. And nope, $98 too! I noticed it was on the clearance rack so I asked an employee if there was a discount on them and he said 20% only. I had then decided I was not going to get it and just then, I ran into my mom's friend who works there. She asked me what I was looking for and I had explained the old price of the rug and how I really had wanted it but the price went up.

She went to the back, asked her manager how much it would go for since it was the last one, and I got it for $30 buck-a-roos! Way to go, Lowe's! That made my day!

Oh yeah, $30!
Chainlink Rug. Love the design.

My living room.

Excuse the mess, but here is the rug. We have lots to do to our living room still, but the rug was a nice add on!

"a very merry unbirthday to all"

Well, today I am sharing some of my favorite birthday cakes I have made. 3 of them were for my husband, so excuse me for being biased. I love making cakes that don't really look like cakes. Here are some of my favorites.

Iphone Cake. My first cake to my husband.

We love Scrabble, so of course I had to make this for my husband!

This was the most recent birthday cake for my husband. He loves bacon so I thought this idea was funny for him!
My nephew's 1st birthday! I really didn't think the cake was going to look so extravagant, but it did! Oh well, but it was one of my favorites.

This was for my dad's birthday. He's an Angel's fan (booo!)  This was when I was first starting to make cakes. As you can see, I practiced with all my loved one's birthdays!!

I just think this one is funny. Someone request Lady Gaga / Hello thought, "what???" I love this one because it came out to what they request! hilarious!

Oh, the cake for the DJ. This one was challenging. But I was content with the overall look!
