Weekend Update: Friendship Luncheon

This past weekend I had a tea luncheon with my two sisters, my cousin, and my best friend. In reality, all these girls are my best friends, and they all just so happened to be all the girls in my wedding party. They are my main girls! Anyhow, we all have different and busy lives and made sure to set aside a day where we can spend some quality time and be of course we did tea time!

The tea house is called my Favorite Place in Glendale. CA. It is one of my cousin's favorite places. (no pun intended!) It was very cute and dainty. Just what I was hoping. And of course we had a fun time!
Oh, and the Rosewater Lemonade was so delicious and refreshing!

I am just thankful for these girls, and the bonding time we had! They always guarantee a good time and many laughs!

Do you have a group of friends that no matter how long it's been, it always seems like no time has passed since you last saw them? A group of true gal pals are important, I always recommend it!

White Bathroom Tubs

Recently my husband and I have been throwing around the idea of redoing our master bathroom. It's not bad, but it's definitely not great. One thing I have always dreamed about is having a nice white tub in the bathroom. When I ran the idea passed my husband, he was totally on board with the tub. Score! We are not even close to doing this anytime soon, but I thought I would go with the first process and get some inspiration!

Here are some of my favorites!

Minty Bag

So...recently I bought myself a mint satchel from Target for only $10!! It was on clearance and the color was calling my name!! It is small, but it has forced me to keep my purse with the essentials.

What's in my mini mint bag:

Fossil Wallet, Gold & White Organizer, Car Keys with Hand Sanitizer, EOS Lip Balm(Mint), Ray-Ban Wayfarer Sunglasses, Betsy Johnson Betsyville Sunglasses( Yes, I know...I shouldn't carry two pairs of sunnies!), Aveeno Lotion, Kate Spade Bangle, and last but not least...Hair Pins!! (you never know when you need 'em!)

I hope my bag can stay this simplified. Also, I forgot to add my phone...oops! We all know what an Iphone looks like anyway!

Is your bag always this simplified? If so, how do you do it?? This feels nice, but I'm afraid it may not last for too long! Will keep you posted!

Homemade Fondant

One thing I never tackled was homemade fondant. Making a whole cake and decorating was hard enough, and just thinking about making fondant too sounded crazy.

So I decided to making it on an occasion that it was okay to mess up: Valentine's Day! The only person I make treats for is my husband that day, and if I mess up...he's suppose to love me unconditionally, right???

I looked up recipes, and I went with one of my favorite blog's recipe, Bake at 350.

All You Need:
16 oz. bag of marshmallow minis
2 lbs. powdered sugar (they usually come in a box)
3 TBSP of water

I greased the a large bowl (that's microwavable) with crisco, and poured all the marshmallows in. Also, pour the 3 TBSP of water in the bowl as well.

Microwave your bowl in 30-second intervals, and stir after each interval. Keep doing the 30-second intervals until everything is melted.

Add almost all the powdered sugar into a standing mixer's bowl. (save 1/4 cup of powdered sugar)
Grease the paddle attachment with Crisco. It helps with the stickiness.
Pour the melted marshmallow into the stand mixer bowl where you have the powdered sugar.

Then you beat until you see a dough like consistency. This part was scary since there were lots of tiny bits at the bottom of the bowl. I read it's okay if that happens. Phew!

Finally, you grease a clean work surface with crisco, and place all you fondant (even the tiny bits) onto the surface. Knead the fondant together. And it starts to become smooth, and more of a fondant texture!

Use the powdered sugar you saved to help you keep the fondant from becoming a sticky mess. Only use the sugar once the fondant is a smooth. Keep doing this until it's at a texture that's workable for you.

Then was my favorite part, I divided the fondant into 4 parts and colored each part in different colors.

I rolled my fondant, and cut out heart shaped figures in 4 colors: pink, yellow, green, and white. Here's my vine video below!

My idea was to make the my fondant look like Valentine's Day candy with messgaes on them. I got my edible red marker, and wrote typical candy messages, and hashtag messages to make it funny.

Here's the finished product! I made my usual cupcakes with my buttercream, and topped it with my homemade fondant hearts! Wasn't as hard as I thought!

Hope you all have a great Valentine's Day!

XOXO, Priscilla

Blank Canvas

Lately I have been working on our wall going up the stairs. We have really high ceiling so I think not having anything on our walls just made our wall seem really empty. My idea was to fill our  white wall with prints, and some photos of ours in white frames. I thought the idea of white on white would be simple, but interesting.

These are some free prints I found on pinterest that worked perfectly with white frames I had.
Here is where I got some of the printables from if you're interested.

Before I started framing, I cut out paper templates to make sure everything looked balanced. I also made little circles on the areas I would need to nail to make it easier for me. Then you can arrange the frames!

Here's the progress. My wall has a little more character!  I have more frames I would like to fill the wall with, but for now this will do. Update to come!

Dear Creatures hit me with their best shot! Seriously, their Spring 2013 collection is amazing. I love that they shot it in Palm Springs. (Especially since I have this new love for Palm Springs) and I love, love how 1960's inspired it is! I'm wishing, and hoping I can have every single piece of clothing in their collection. I am also wishing it were Spring already!

Here are some of my favs!

Staining Alive!

My best friend is always looking for good deals on furniture at yard sales and such, and she found this amazing dresser that she haggled down to $12! And because it didn't fit in her place, she bought it for me instead! Yes, that's why she's so great and my best friend!

It has a mid century modern flair and I just loved it! It had some scratches, but nothing sanding and cleaning couldn't fix.

In this lighting, it doesn't look so bad, but the wood was too light that it didn't work with my house. So my idea was to stain it with wood stain I already had. So I spent $0!

This after it was cleaned, and sanded!

Once I was done sanding, I got a towel and swiped the dresser down to make sure there was no wood residue. Then I started staining with a Kona brown I love!

I started with the drawers. I took them out to start staining. Here's the difference between the two colors. What a little stain can do!

I love how you can see the wood grain even with the stain!

Yay! I love the dark wood! Makes the dresser look so modern and a bit glossy!

I decided to put it next to our bed! And of course it went on my side of the bed!!

This was my project I was working on this week. I love the darker wood for my house. I also think the stain helped hide the kinks! Have you ever tried staining furniture? If you haven't, it isn't so scary! Maybe start with something inexpensive so it doesn't feel like such a gamble.

DIY String Art

Earlier this week on pinterest, I saw this string art I had posted about. I was very determined to make. And it actually turned to 3 projects!

Love string art.

R & P string art!

  Heart String Art

All you need is a piece of square wood, nails, string, wood stain, and a print out/cut out. And it's so very easy. A little time consuming, but easy.

Step One: Stain the wood if you'd like. I used a kona brown stain I already had.
Step Two: Once the stain is dry (takes about 15 minutes), take your letter print out or shape and tape it to the wood.
Step Three: Hammering! Nail around the outline of the shape. I spaced each nail using my thumb.
Step Four: Once you're done hammering all the nails in, you can remove the paper.
Step Five: String away! Tie a knot on a nail and keep stringing and wrapping the string on the nails until you start seeing your pattern. This was my favorite part. I kind of started by outlining it first, but there is no right way!

These string art pieces will be going in our master bedroom. My master bedroom is a work in progress, and I needed more decor for our room, so this was a perfect project for it.

Wish I had more pictures of the process of doing this project, but my computer did not save the pictures and deleted them from my camera. Tech malfunction- but hope you enjoyed the finished project!
