Mother's Day Gift Guide

Yesterday I spent some of my afternoon in one of my favorite stores, World Market. While I was there, I got so many ideas of what to get my mom for Mother's Day! My mom is a one-of-a-kind type of lady, and World Market has lots of unique items my mom would love!

This necklace is so bold, and so my mom! The gold is perfect for her, and the shape is unique!

I love the color of this bag! My mom loves bags that aren't too complicated with all the zippers, and pockets, so this bag is perfect. And she would love the design.

These rustic vintage candles are great! Especially since they smell great! I love the canisters the candles are in, and my mom would love them too.

This boho scarf may not work for every mom, but it would work for the unique kind like mine. I know she would love the color, and lightness of it.

How pretty is this tea pot? I love it for myself, but moms would love it for entertaining or a simple night at home!

These measuring cups!! I think any mom would love these because they are so reminiscing of a family! My mom would probably think they are too cute to use!

I chose my gift guide based on my mom, but there are some items here that many moms would like! And if you don't have a mom in your life, there are many women in your life that can use a little reminder how much they mean to you!

Weekend Update: Cakes

This weekend was a crazy one for me. I made a 2 tiered wedding anniversary cake, along with 150 cupcakes. Then I made a cake for my sister's boyfriend, and 30 cupcakes for my other sister. They all were for the same day. Luckily, I planned my cake making or else I would have been a stressed mess! (which I have been before!)

This was the first time I had made so many cake orders. I once tried to make two cake orders for the same weekend, and it did not turn well for me. It might have been my lack of time, but after that incident, I never again made that commitment until this past weekend. And the reason I did it it was because I had committed to the anniversary cake and got paid in advance for it. So that was a given that I would do that order. Then my sister's boyfriend cake had already been promised a couple months back. Then my other sister's cupcakes were added since she was having a birthday party. Thankfully I knew about this in advance, and planned my time. I was not stressed, I didn't have a meltdown, Ralph didn't get my crazy side, and I actually slept! It was a success in my book.

Here are the 150 cupcakes for the wedding. It seemed never ending, but it actually wasn't so bad.

Here is the 2 tiered Golden Wedding Anniversary Cake. I loved adding all the gold!

This was the cake for my sister's boyfriend. He loves Nutella, so course I had to do a Nutella jar. This cake was surprisingly easy to do. Probably because the shape and height was simpler. Nonetheless, it was really fun!

And last but not least, these were the cupcakes for my sister. I went with a very festive birthday theme. I think the balloons were my favorite!

Well, I learned this week I can do more than one cake at a time. I actually can do it! Here comes the but...BUT I will not choose to do more than one cake if it's up to me (unless I feel like I can do it without being too stressed). I am happy I was able to overcome my last miserable experience, and I am happy I know I can do it successfully, but I just can't commit to it every time. I am also glad all the cakes looked good, and not sloppy. Now I can put my last experience away, and think back on this one. I am happy I proved myself wrong.

Dining Room Re-do

Our dining room went through a change. I don't think it was so drastic, but when I see pictures, I surely wouldn't want it the way it used to be!

This was the listing picture of the dining room.
The wallpaper was Victorian pink and green pattern! I know, so ugly! And the chandelier was bulky, with gold and mirrored details. Oh, and the light bulbs looked like fake candles! So cheesy!

Here's a close up of the wallpaper. When we bought the house, I was up for the challenge of removing wallpaper, but we had so much wallpaper in the house that it made the job annoying.

We lived with the wallpaper for about 4 months. I can't believe we went that long with it, but I was working full time that it made working on the dining room impossible.

As soon as I had free time, I finally decided to tackle the job. The room no longer felt like it was eating you up. We still had our old dining room table, and the chandelier. The table was too small, and the lighting was outdated!

I had mentioned before here that we were on a search for a dining table. And we finally found one! It is a danish modern-style inspired one. It makes our dining table look more open, and modern.

And now, we can have more than 4 people seating on the table! Yay! I am not ashamed of my dining room like I used to be. And a plus is that my husband loves this room, as do I!

DIY: Vegetable Magic

Recently, I have been looking at pinterest for gardening. I have been into gardening lately, mostly nice shrubs, herbs, and some veggies. Nothing too crazy, since I have no idea what I'm doing. Anyhow, one day I saw something about vegetables you can regrow from itself! So I obviously had to read it, and noticed celery was on the list. And I had just finished a celery stock, and had the bottom remaining, which is exactly what you need.

First day: You need to place the cut celery bottom in a bowl filled with about 1/2 inch of water. I left it like this for couple days and refilled the bowl when it got low.
4 days later, green leaves started to sprout out! This was very exciting for me.

9 days later, the celery stems were more obvious, and looking very green. At that point, I placed the celery bottom in soil and watered it regularly. I made sure the celery bottom was covered in soil but the newly grown stems were out of the soil.

12 days later, the celery stock is way more obvious and getting taller.

And today, we are at day 16. It has been a little over 2 weeks and it appears to me that my celery project has been successful. It isn't a full grown celery stock yet, but only time will tell.

Have you ever tried this? Any tips? I will keep you posted on my celery project!

Style Inspiration: Classy Beach Wear

Sunny weather automatically make me think of going to the beach. I love going to seaside restaurants, and just relaxing for the day. What I love more is wearing fun ocean inspired fashion!

I am so in love with the dress and sunnies!!!

Corkin' My Heart

I finally did a project with all the wine corks I had. (And no, I am not a wino!) I used to work at a hotel, and the bartender gave me bags of wine corks he saved up. I meant to do a project with them, but couldn't decide what. So, I went with the obvious...a cork board! But not just any cork board, but a heart shaped one with some color.

First, you need lots of corks. The size of your heart will depend on how many corks you have. I had a lot, so I went bigger.

I cut out a heart template so my heart wouldn't look so off. I also squeezed the paint colors I wanted to dip the end of the corks with.

I began to dip the corks in the paints and place them on the heart to get a feel of how many to do, and also to let the dry.

I began to fill the heart, and once it looked mostly filled with some space in between, I stopped, and decided to fill the spacing with unpainted corks. I still wanted it to get the cork-like-board feel.

Once the paint was dry, I filled it in with the corks to make sure I liked the look. I did, so I started to hot glue the corks onto the heart template, and I also hot glued some of the sides to connect with other corks.

I actually wasn't sure if hot glueing the corks to the template and to each other would work, but it did! I let it dry for a couple days, and added a frame hanger to the back.

I place the cork board in my guest room, that I use as a crafts room too. I think it turned out great! It
is a very easy project, and great for an office or kitchen.

*side note

*After seeing all the images on the television yesterday, I woke up today hoping it was just a nightmare. It breaks my heart that someone would intentionally want to hurt innocent people. But God heals the brokenhearted. This is a realization for me, and probably to many, that this life we live in isn't guaranteed or meant to last forever. I thank God I don't put my hope on people because people will fail and disappoint us, and instead put all my hope on God. My God is bigger than all these problems, and I will keep praying for Boston and all those affected.

 xoxo, Priscilla

Flowers and Sunshine

I love a good floral print. I love it even more on a cute retro swimsuit! Here are some of my favorites of the season. Some prints are bold and some subtle, but I love them all!

The Great Gatsby

One of my favorite books that I tend to reread, and always has a place in my heart is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

I love so many things about this novel, the way the Jazz Age was magically described, the character's so vivid personalities, a vision of poverty to riches,  the intensity of longing for love, and the downfall of reality.

I am very excited to see what The Great Gatsy movie coming out this year will be like. The trailers have not disappointed me so far.

I love this book, and can go on about it. Hopeful, Tragic, and Enchanting.

DIY: Yarn Pom Pom

I just got on the yarn pom pom bandwagon. It's fun, and extremely easy!
I saw some pinterest steps to use a fork. I honestly tried, and it didn't work too well for me.(knowing me, I probably was doing it wrong!) The pom pom was to flimsy from what I wanted, so I went with a Martha Stewart video tutorial. Very easy to follow, and made the first time pom pom making a breeze!
See the picture steps below!

I think the multi-colored yarn made the pom pom more festive. I think next time I will try a solid colored yarn, and see what I like better.

I liked the overall turn out! I liked the pom poms so much I actually made a garland out of it!

It sure makes the room more fun, and I love fun!

10 little secrets

I decided to share my top ten things people usually don't know about me. Some are quirky, and some I feel people relate to. The ones closest to me probably know most of them.

  1. I often have this falling sensation that wakes me up as soon as I start to doze off. It happens to me a couple times a week.
  2. I am scared of the sound wind makes, especially at night. I used to keep ear plugs next to my bed for those particular nights, but now I stuff my ears with toilet paper.
  3. I am allergic to the sun. (i think it's the ultra violet lights?) and get rashes if I'm in the sun too long. My skin gets a burning itchy feeling, so I must wear sunblock and I usually carry a cardigan for sunny days.
  4. I used to hate tomatoes, and now I can't get enough of them. I just love them. I can eat them like apples now.
  5. I never use a blow dryer for my hair, and just let my hair air dry.
  6. I'm self conscience of my legs. They get really skinny near my ankles, and I have long feet, so it gives it an even skinny-flamingo-like look!
  7. I miss people immediately as soon as I finish seeing them.
  8. When I was a kid, I was terrified of flies. I thought they stung the same as bees.
  9. I have this habit of picking at my feet. I pick the cuticles, and sometime make my toenails bleed from doing it too much.
  10. I absolutely hate getting coughs. When I feel a little bit of a scratchy throat, I immediately drink tea with lots of honey.
Oh gosh, some of these are kind of embarrassing, but that's me.

Style Inspiration: Audrey Hepburn

One of the most iconic style influences is Audrey Hepburn's. Her look was classic, simple, sophisticated, and feminine. I absolutely am in love with this style. And even though she was from a different decade, you can still have style in the essence of Audrey.

Spring is in the Air

Nothing compares to simply being outdoors on a beautiful day. I especially love cute outdoor spaces in homes. My outdoor space is still in progress, and no where near looking complete, but with nice weather starting to hit us here in L.A., you can't help, but to start looking at fun ways to decorate your patio or backyard.

Oh, that natural scenery is just beautiful.

Those mini light bulbs just make the space look so charming.

What a great way to bring a living space outdoors.

LOVE! So rustic and easy.

This space is modern and cool. Loving the bright colors.

Beautiful space. That fireplace just belongs in this villa feel.

I just love spaces that seem so easy and comfortable. I would be happy to hang out in any of these during the spring. Reading a book, and sipping on some coffee in any of these spaces sounds perfect.

Weekend Update: Easter Sunday

This past weekend, was very productive. My husband and I worked on our house and got projects we have been meaning to tackle out of the way. But my favorite part of this whole weekend was Sunday. I just love Easter. Mostly for the event the day represents as a believer, but also the unity I feel when I am in the presence of the ones I love.

Ralph and I went to church Sunday morning. Gloomy, but so beautiful. I love going to church with him. He is my family, and it's just so special to me to be able to share moments with him.

Afterwards, we went over to my parent's house to have an outdoor garden lunch. (Luckly, we were in the closed patio, and it didn't rain!) My dad, of course, was cooking. He is the best cook I know. He made the most delicious paella. He loves to make all of us happy with his cooking. He never fails.
Then we had an Easter egg hunt for my nephews. They are that age where they can enjoy a little fun, and would understand the concept of finding hidden eggs. (especially since they knew there were treats in them!) They had a blast and were overwhelmed by all the eggs. So fun to watch how simple life is for them, it's sweet.

I am just so thankful for my family and being able to enjoy my time with them. They bring the silly out of me and, I wouldn't have it any other way. (The bottom left picture of my nephews were their surprised face, kills me everytime!)
Us ladies are pretty outnumbered in our family now with all my nephews, but we still have tons of fun with those silly boys.
Hope you all had a great Easter!
