sparkle for the new year

Hope you all had a good Christmas! But now, guess what's coming up? New Year's Eve! And when I think of New Year's Eve, I think sparkly and dazzling!

So here are 10 ways to sparkle and shine for the New Year! Some things are subtle, and others are more bold. And if you're brave, do more than one item on this bedazzled list!

I am so in love with this stunning white skirt. The white long sequin pleats blend well with the skirt, and give the skirt a softness and elegance, but still glamours in it's own way!

White Jacket I love this white blazer with the gold sequin trim. It's not overly bedazzled but just the right amount for the New Year!

Pleated Skirt I am so in love with this stunning white skirt. The white long sequin pleats blend well with the skirt, and give the skirt a softness and elegance, but still glamours in it's own way!

HeelsThese heels can brighten up any outfit! I cannot stop starring!

Leather Clutch A bag or clutch is a simple way to add sparkle to your night. There is no real commitment to it, but a definite eye catching item when you walk in!

Watch This watch has been on my wishlist for quite some tome. It's just enough sparkle and perfect for counting down to the new year!

Earrings You don't have to wear sparkly clothes to shine, you can have some fun jewelery like this amazing earrings!

Belt This bow belt is so amazing, the bow is cute on it's own but add some glitter and you're set! Add it to simple black dress and you're ready to party the night away!

Rhinestone headband Hair accessories are are a great way to add glamour to your outfit. It's small statement piece, and people will surly notice! Makeup is a very fun way to add shimmer to your night.

EyeshadowGold, Silver or Bronze eyeshadows are very easy to find at stores, even drug stores. They can change the look of your outfit with some extra shine in the eyes!

Nail PolishThis is probably the easiest way to add some glitter to your New Year. And it's one of my favorite things to do add pizzaz to outfits!

Gift Wrapping Inspiration

Where else do you go to get some holiday inspiration? Pinterest! So I made my way over there to look at some beautiful gift wrapping. So if you haven't wrapped a thing yet, take a look at see how these people made their gifts a bit more special.

Adding some twine, pinecones, and christmas branches adds a rustic look that I just love.

Yarn can go a long way...(no pun intended)  But I just love the shapes and patterns made by these colored red and green yarn.

How fun are these Christmas lightbulbs? It can be made with your thumb prints then sharpie the strands to give it the look.

A statement ribbon can simply spruce up any gift! Tie a big bow and add a name tag.

Who knew you could use doilies to add some vintage feel to a gift. I love how they used the center to stamp "to" and "from". Such a good idea!

Hope you're inspired!

Regifting

My pals over at The Girls With Glasses Show  did a fun little parody of Last Christmas, but it's all about regifting! We all must have done it once in our lives. Let's be honest, sometimes time is short and we just don't have enough time...and regirfting becomes our last solution!  Haha!

I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did!

Donuts & Trees

You would think since I make cupcakes and cakes, I would naturally make sugar cookies. But guess what...I never have.  I made some cookies, but never decorated any with the royal icing and all. I kind of had an idea of what to do, but still looked for some tips on the good ol' internetz.

One of my favorite blogs to read is Bake 350. Her cookies are amazing and so creative. So when I was in search for a great sugar cookie recipe, I went straight to Bake 350 for one! It's so very easy, and tasty.

Seriously, you only need 7 ingredients. The only thing I was missing was the almond extract, but just make sure to follow Bake 350's cookie recipe.

Once you have your dough, still make sure to mix with your hands since you will have a few crumbs. And then you can place on a clean floured surface and begin to roll out your dough to about 1/4 inch.

As for your cookie shape, you will need a cookie cutter of your choice. I made these cookies with the intention of creating a donut shape cookie. So first, I needed a round cutter.

Once I had my larger circles cut out, I cut small circles to the center of them. Right before I baked my cookies, I placed the cookie sheet with the cookies in the freezer for 5 minutes.

Then they were ready to bake at 350 for 10-12 mins. Once cooled, I began decorating. I didn't take pictures of my decorating, mostly because I never had done it before and wasn't quite sure if they would work out. But I got the royal icing recipe for cookie decorating from here.

I decorated half of my donuts with a bright pink icing, and sprinkles. Really wish I had long sprinkles, but these worked out just fine.

And I also made some that looked like chocolate donuts too! Can't forget about the chocolate ones!

Oh yeah, and since I had extra dough, I decided to make some Christmas trees too. I didn't plan these very well so I kind of improvised and kept them simple.

And there you have it, donuts and trees! Here's to my first time making sugar cookies. I thought they came out pretty good. Now I have more of an idea what my game plan will be next time I make sugar cookies again. And these cookies were delicious and chewy, husband approved!

Be Our Guest

I haven't shown any house updates in sometime. I feel like I haven't had a dramatic change in any of our rooms. But I remembered recently about our guest room. It actually has come a long way. Sometimes I tend to forget what the shape of our house was like when we first bought it. Haha! And seeing the before, oh boy, it needed a bit of sprucing up.

BEFORE

Here is our  guest room before. It was not only blue, but two shades of it! This room looking back was just bad.

Our guest room closet, has no doors. And it was kind of a mess.

The color just darkened up the space a whole lot.

Oh, and the reason half of the room is white was because there was a cityscape wallpaper(which I forgot to take a picture of) It was big, and ugly!

AFTER

And here is the room now. A lot more light. I went with an all white room. It made a dramatic difference in here.

We added a queen size bed for our guest, and of course I had to add my girly touches, and hints of red.

Since we haven't invested in closet doors quite yet, I bought a cute ikea curtain to spruce up the room and add some fun design.

And I have some a desk on the other side of the bed. Some craft stuff, and my sewing machine. Sometimes I craft in the room since it's not usually occupied.

And there you have it! Our guest room transformation. I still want to do a few more things to the space, like a new rug, and maybe another side table. But for now, it works. And I love it way more than it was before. I'm glad the dark blue is gone and the the space feels happier.

Uptown Funk

These past days, I have been kind of whatever about new music. Sometimes music on the radio is just digitalized or sounds kind some one put it together in 5 mins with awful lyrics and melodies.

I'm an old school kind of gal. I love dancy music but I like it to have some funk and soul. Disco music is my jam. Michael Jackson was also a fav. I always love me some Earth, Wind, and Fire. So when I heard the new Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars song. I was sooo happy. Big song with some good sounds to dance to. Such a throwback sound.

Can't stop, won't stop jamming to this. This song has been brightening up my days!

Today is the first of December! Holy cow. Where did the year go? Not sure where it went, but December has approached us quicker than ever. And when it comes to December, I'm usually barely starting Christmas shopping. So this month, I will be sharing a gift guide for some important people in your life.

So today, let's start with a gift guide for your BFF.

My best friend is sometimes hard to shop for, but I think a lot of the things I picked, she would like or your best friend would like.

Sixties Thanksgiving Style

For Thanksgiving, going to a Thanksgiving dinner is a given.(whoa, play on words) In my family we dress nicely for the event. But every year, I have the dilemma on what to wear because I want comfort, but I want to look stylish. But since I'm such a big fan of the mod style, I wanted to incorporate it in my Thanksgiving look this year.

sixties mod style

Chevron dress
Dress- You need a dress with some give, and not too fitting. Especially since the main event for Thanksgiving is a whole lot of eating!

opaque tight
Tights- I notmally wear tights if it's too cold in the evening, usually helps keep my legs warm, and these are quite fashionable.

black and white shoes
Shoes- I always like heels for special events but heels can be uncomfortable sometimes, so this kitten heel oxford is perfect for extra height and style.

lips
Lip Stain- I am a lipstick kind of gal, but lipstick can smear and get all over the place especially if you're eating. Lip stain gives color but it's so bold like a lipstick.

Wool coat
Coat- I love coats, and a bold coat as you're entering someones home can be a perfect piece to a conversation starter. P.S. I love how mod it is!

Clutch- I normally go with something smaller only because there usually there isn't much to bring to a dinner if you're a guest. Just yourself and an appetite!

November Cakes

November has brought me the loveliest cakes. So pretty and dainty. I normally do more bright and colorful cakes, but I kind of love this type of cake too.

So today, I wanted to share some of my favorite cakes I did this month.

The first here is a baby shower cake with tons of succulents. I was completely smitten over this one. The succulents were so bright and made the cake what it was. Love how natural and organic looked.

And the rose cake is a favorite with people, but what made this one of my favorites was the edible glitter all over it. In person, it shimmered so nicely. These pictures capture the sparkle a little thankfully.

Which one was your favorite? I cannot decide. I love these both as if there were my babies. Haha!

NonTraditional Thanksgiving Sweets

If you didn't know already, I'm a sweets and desserts kind of gal! Every holiday, I love to check out other sites and get inspired with delicious sweets. So I want to share some of the ones I'm seriously considering for this year's Thanksgiving festivities! Warning: these aren't your traditional Thanksgiving treats, but have all the essence of one!

Look at these mini pumpkin pies from My Baking Addiction. Aren't they darling?? The perfect bite-sized yumminess!

Holy cow, this dessert looks like perfection. Vanilla and Cider Panna Cotta with spiced Ginger Cookies. Only Food & Wine can give us a dessert like this.

And of course, we need some adorable and maybe a healthier option for anyone who is skipping on the pie. A pear and apple slices with caramel dip is a great alternative. And you can't deny how cute this is. Great dessert from Meet the Dubiens.

One of my favorite things about Thanksgiving is Sweet Potato! This Sweeta Potato cupcakes with Marshmallow Frosting from Annie's Eats looks like perfection!

I just couldn't but share another cupcake! But c'mon!!! Look at these awesome cupcakes from Make Bake Celebrate! Holy cow, these are so fun! If you didn't get enough of your Thanksgiving meal...BAM, here you have them on a cupcake!

Hope all of you guys try one of these desserts. I surly was inspired, but now I can't decide which one to make!

Style Envy

One of my celebrity style favorites is none other than the "it girl", Taylor Swift. Even though she has so much success at such a young age, I must give it to her for her style. I feel like she discovered her style just a few years ago. Something shifted and this girl found what clothes look best on her. I am quite envious. She keeps it classy with such chic taste. And to be honest, I would wear any of these outfits in a heartbeat. I think her style represents my style, so maybe that's why I just love it so much.

And if you're not a fan of her music, you can't deny good fashion. I love her all around. Stay classy, T-Swift!

Street style, loving the shorts with geometric sweater.

Perfect hair, floral dress, and darling heels.

I'm a sucker for good coats. In love with this one. And red lips, classy!

Such class this young girl. And legs for days.

Such a simple outfit, but she wears a blazer with such grace.

Love everything about this. I even love her pop of red with her bag and lipstick.

Color and style.

She works those oxfords like no other. And those long legs! What are your thoughts on Taylor?

Venice

Today I share my last stop on my Italy trip, Venice. Venice was like no other city in Italy, and made the last stop so exciting even though we were pretty tired by the end of our trip. The canals are so beautiful, and how the city is just made up of tiny islands is incredible. And I love not seeing cars anywhere too!

This was view from our water bus! I love all the boats everywhere.

My favorite view was from our apartment. We were down the street from the Arsenal Canal, and 5 minute walk from St. Mark. I loved looking out the window and just seeing boats pass by.

Very busy St. Marks Square.

St. Marks Basilica. Seems like so much gets restored in Italy. But I love that. And it's beautiful inside.

Me wandering around Venice, so mesmerized by the canals.

Inside the Bridge of Sighs, connecting the Doge's Palace and the prison.

Inside Doge's Palace and view of the top of the basilica.

One of my favorite parts of Venice was the Doge's Palace. So much art, and architecture.  It's stunning!

View from the Rialto bridge.

Our last meal in Italy. The place was amazing. I will share more food pictures of my favorite places on another post.

Italy was such a great experience. I fell in love with the country, the friendly people, the delicious food, and culture. I never realized how much I need traveling, until I began doing it more. People always say "what a small world", and it is sometimes. But when you travel, somehow standing in a beautiful corner of the world, you feel so small and the world feels endless. I just want to see it all. I have been fortunate enough to travel my whole life all over the U.S. with my family. But now as an adult and going overseas, I just don't want to stop exploring. Just this past year, I have been to England, Scotland, France, Italy, Dominican Republic, Aruba, Grand Turk, and Curacao. And I'm already thinking where I can go next! Wanderlust is real, folks.
