Art Deco Sweets

This past weekend, I made a bride and groom cake and cupcakes for an art deco themed wedding. It was so fun to make. Especially since it was also somewhat peacock inspired as well. I was all about it. I  don't usually make wedding cakes but since the cake was so small, and it was mostly cupcakes, I was definitely up for the challenge.

This pattern was the main inspiration to the cake and cupcakes. It was peacock feather inspired and art deco at the same time.

And here are the 100 cupcakes all in my kitchen!

And here's the bride and groom's cake without the topper. I loved it this way too. So very old Hollywood.

And here are the peacock wedding toppers I made. They are actually made by rice krispies!
And here is the wedding set up.

And here is the final look of the cake!

I had a lot of fun with this one!

Guest Bedroom ideas

Last week I shared our master bedroom, and it's still in the process of being updated, but looks a lot better than before. And since we got rid of our old bed frame, we moved it into the guest bedroom. We used to have a futon in there, but now with a queen bed in there, I am getting quite inspired!

All my rooms in my house have softer colors so I am eager to make this room a lot brighter, bolder. I love this color pallet, so I'm very excited.

I have a few of these items, but a new rug, and side tables could be a good addition!

Let the planning begin!

Bedroom Redo

So this post really is a long time coming. Back when we redid our bathroom in January, we also did a small tiny remodel to our master bedroom. Not sure if any of you remember me mention, but the previous owners had knocked down a wall between a small bedroom and the master and made the master a big MASTER! It was almost awkward because it was obvious it was two rooms at one point, so the room just didn't flow so well.

So when we knew we would have contractors at our house, we asked about them re-walling the the bedroom so we could gain another spare room. The extra space wasn't necessary in our master for us.

You can see how much space we had in here. So much wasted space.
Our bathroom and bedroom are not in this format either, but here you can kind of see the crazy space.
This is the view into the guest bedroom/expanded master. We walled up right before the armchair.
To us, this was a progress to how the bedroom used to be when we first bought the house. This whole room actually used to be a maroon color with bamboo border all around. But the first day we got the keys, we painted. So wish I had a picture of the waaaaay before.

And here is our Master now. We repainted the walls a light grey/blue color instead of the baby blue that was in before.

We also got a new bed frame. I've been dying for a new one! We are also planning on getting new bed side tables. Not yet, but hopefully soon!

Our room is a light brighter and simpler, and I like it a lot more!

Our room is smaller, but it feels right. We still have plenty of space still, and it just feels cozy.

And here's the view to the wall we added. We have crazy mismatched furniture, but for now it works. We eventually want a new dresser and such, but I'm just happy to have a normal sized master.

back to school wish list

It's that time of year again. Kids are going back to school, mothers rejoice, and traffic stinks again. Oh, summer is almost over. Well, L.A. hasn't gotten the memo yet. Still 90 degrees, and sweaty over here. But a girl can dream that it will get chilly!

Anyhow, with all the back to school talk, I love walking around the stores with their sales. Although I'm not student anymore or a momma to send my kids to school, I decided to create my own back to school wish list! Maybe it's just an excuse to shop for the fall season, either way, I'm on board with all I want!

Pretending, I'm going back to school, why not!

P.S. Last week I was a bit M.I.A. So sorry! I do have a room update planned for you. Also have a outdoor DIY for ya too! All coming this week!

Weekend Update

This past weekend was a busy one for us. We had a wedding of a friend of ours and it was so very fun. But also in the mix of that, I had a cake for another party I was making.

The party was under the sea themed, and the cake was so fun to make! I have never made one before so it was quite the challenge, but I'm always up for one!

I hardly get to use real things, like shells but this called out for the big guns. I used a real starfish and shells. I loved it. And I also used light brown sugar for "sand" mostly because real sand would be awful on a cake! haha!

P.S. I'm working on a DIY project for this week. So sorry it's been so long. Not sure how I got so behind. But this week I'm determined to get a project out. I'm also planning on getting a house update up as well. I have the room in mind, just got to get it organized and completely decorated. Stay tuned, friends!

Summer Nights

Oh, Summer nights, I love thee. Something about the not so hot and not too cool weather is peaceful. So when I'm out at night, all I want to listen to is cool mellow, and not too crazy music. I just want to breathe the night in. Here's my summer night playlist. Enjoy.

a whole latte lovin'

I'm a coffee lover, and I especially love lattes. Some it's no surprised that today I was inspired by my daily morning beverage. The beautiful color is wonderful for end of summer, and going into fall. It's easy, breezy, and sophisticated. I'm into this latte trend!
