Tomato Living

Tomatoes and I have come a long way. I did not like tomatoes my whole childhood, even throughout high school. Actually, it wasn't until about 5 years ago I started eating them, and became obsessed. I don't even know what happened. I couldn't even eat a burger with one, and my plates were always spotless except for those red darn tomoatoes I couldn't get myself to eat. And then one day I went to a restaurant and tasted a tomato salad. And something so glorious was happening inside my mouth, I almost couldn't comprehend it. The burst of sweet and savory in this small juicy fruit over took me. I craved it. And at 22, I  became a tomato person. I eat them as snacks, I always want to incorport them in dinners, and if I could I would swear the sweet sent. Although Method did come out with a tomato vine hand soap last year, so I did smell like tomato!

I got so very inspired with tomatoes that I thought the beautiful color would makes a great hue to decorate with in the house. Here are some home decor ideas inspired by the delicious red tomato!

Glass Red lamp
I love a bold lamp, so a nice clean round red base is perfect to add a tomato touch.

Orla Kiely Pillow
Orla Kiely does everything right. The color and pattern of the pillow is perfection.

Salt & Pepper Shakers
Pretty salt & pepper shakers are a must in the kitchen.

Coffee Cup
This cappuccino mug is perfect for my morning routines. And I think it would actually work too for some tomato soup.

Tomato Pouf
Holy Cow! Can you believe how awesome this tomato pouf is? I want one in every room of my house!

Jonathan Adler candle
Jonathan Adler can do no wrong. I love all his corky home decor. I especially love this tomato candle!

Watercolor painting
I need this watercolor painting from Etsy. It's so lovely and simple. I can see this in my dining room.

Red Sofa Chaise
This sofa is sooooo fun! This sure is a statement piece but it would look so cool in a living space!

I'm so very inspired...and hungry!

Girly Cakes

I have been making some pretty girly cakes lately. I am not one to be too girly, but I sure like some pinks and purples sometimes. It just turns out that these past couple weeks, it's been all about the pastels in the cakes coincidently. I have been loving it.

Here's a cake I made this weekend. I have never tried this technic with cake, but I made a ruffled roses cake with fondant. It almost reminded me of fabric. I love it, and can't wait to try it some more!

Even though purple isn't one of my favorite colors, I loved how it looked with the jade cake stand.

And here is another one I made for a little girl's 8th birthday. She loves her chihuahua so the cake was themed on her beloved dog.

I think I'm more open to these pretty girly cakes. It's just so dainty! I think there will be more to come!

Italian Getaway

I might have mentioned it casually, but now I just can't wait for it, so I will scream it, WE ARE GOING TO ITALY! Yay! It's about a month away and I'm getting more and more excited as we get closer to leave.

When Ralph and I went on our first big trip after we got married, we went to the Caribbean, and the Mayan Rivera. It was so fun for us to travel together, we never want to stop now. He makes the best travel companion because we both are experiencing a new world for the first time, together. And it's just magical.

And last year for our Europe trip was so fun too, maybe because we were so far from home, it made the experinence even more fun. Going to England, France, and Scotland was quite the experience. The food, the architecture, and newness of it all was was something I want to keep on experiencing with Ralph. So when we decided to take a trip  this year, and we knew it wouldn't be multiple countries like last time. We tried to decide on a country we both have been wanting to go with different cities worth checking out, and that's how Italy came about.

We are going to 4 cities in 2 weeks. Should be so fun! Rome, Florence, Cinque Terre, and Venice.

I am so very excited. I always went on family trips all over the U.S. and other smaller trips, but traveling now it so different and a whole other level. I hope to have fun, and make sure it's a trip we both enjoy and will remember.

Now, to practice my Italian!

Etsy Wish List

Do you guys buy a lot from Etsy? I do. Not a whole lot, but often. I love it. People are so creative, and talented. And supporting their arts is so cool to me.

I love all the different kind of things you can find. From vintage finds to specialty craft supplies, and it can come from all around the world. I love to receive packages and know that it was sent from somewhere foreign like Greece.

Here are a few things I have been eyeing.

I really love this necklace. It's something I probably would put my wedding anniversary on. I love the Roman numerals.

How pretty is this cake stand? I have been building a collection with cake stands, and this would fit quite nicely with the rest!

This patio chair! I'm obsessed with the color and design. I need a couple of these in my yard.

Not too many things I've been eyeing but they are all so versatile. That's what I love about Etsy. You really could find just about anything, and even have it personalized. Can it get any better? I think not.

Walkin' on Sunshine

Like I always say, summer time is the perfect time to pull into fun colors, especially in your wardrobe. And yellow is no exception. I don't have so much yellow, but have noticed myself gravitating to it a lot more. And all shades of yellows too. Yellow was even one of my wedding colors because I just think the color is fun, happy, and inviting.

Anyhow, here are some of my yellow favorite items I've been spying with my little eye.

I think I'm mostly in love with that swim suit! How about you?

Essentials

I was recently asked what would be my "do or die" essentials. Obviously there is some givens, like real necessities, and family & friends. But I wanted to make my survival kit fun! This fun essentials were inspired by Man Crates

What I can't live without

Ben & Jerry's Half Baked Ice Cream-
This is my go-to dessert. It's like eating three desserts at once. Chocolate & vanilla ice cream swirled with chocolate chip cookie dough, and brownie chunks! I love it, and can probably love off of it.

EOS lip balm-
I need moist lips! And this lip balm not only is cute to look at, but smells minty fresh. I just love how it makes my lips feel. I carry a couple of these in my purse at all times.

Iphone-
You may think this one is a given. And it is, but what I especially love about the Iphone is that it can take good quality pictures, so it can work as a camera. You can also store music, which I need! My playlists are essential. And I just love that the Iphone is just like a simple mini computer, and very portable.

Coffee-
I need my caffeine in the morning. Coffee very much is the nectar of the gods. The taste is just so good, I need a couple of these cups throughout my day. I very much can't live without it.

Books-
Who needs a television when there so many great books out there! I love me a good read. Books really just take you to a place that no where else can. I would bring myself some fun current read like "Where'd you go Bernadette?' to great classics like "Great Expectations".

And there you have it, my five essentials! I sure wouldn't be healthy in my eating, but I'd be happy. Haha! What are some of yours? Make it fun and let me know!

another year

Yup, it's that time again. My birthday is upon us (mostly me, ha!), and I am feeling blessed. I couldn't ask for a better family, friends, and husband. Today already started up great when my husband brought up a latte in bed for me. And I already got spoiled all weekend long by him with multiple dinners, and a Disneyland trip. So far, so good.

I'm ready to start approaching my 30's soon. And also wondering where all the time went. But that's life. Living this new year to the fullest and ready for new adventures.

Comparison

Let's be real today. Comparison...why do we do it?

Last week The Girls With Glasses shared a video on comparison. I loved it so much that I think it's worth sharing. We all know how much I love these girls for obvious reasons, and maybe because they are my friends but they are so real and honest with topics we all can relate to. I love this topic because I see it being such a problem we all(including myself) fall victim to these days, and yet we have the power to prevent it. But how?

We know how much we encouragement we need with comparison game when the top typography pins on pinterest are on comparison. We need constant reminders! Fore real. This comparison thing we have going on is a dangerous road. The trouble when we enter the comparison road is that our vision gets distorted. We become blind to our own value, and devalue our self-worth. Not worth it.

The Girls mentioned this very popular print. Comparison can really steal your joy and happiness. It can ruin your day, and sometimes week! And most importantly, don't let it ruin your life.

This quote by Emma Stone is something we all must remember. We are all on social media seeing what people portray through pictures, and we automatically think they are somehow better than us. We equal a pretty picture to mean happiness.

And this is one of my favorites, I love this. Once I saw the word "strangers," I realized how foolish we are to compare our lives with people we don't know. This print is convicting to me.

Social media is a tricky thing. It's meant to share highlights of your life, but so many misconstrue those moments as a whole representation of our lives. And then there are those trying to portray a perfect life when it's not and we believe that too.

I too fall for it when I look at people's pictures sometimes. I think, how does so-and-so have time to do all that, or go there? But I'm sure many look have looked at my facebook or instagram and must think I spend my whole time baking, blogging, working on my house and eating out. But that's sooooooo not how it is. I'm currently sitting in my living room with crap all over, a sink full of dishes, and no clean white clothes. I made a cute cake this weekend, but my kitchen is suffering and has not recovered from the mess.  I usually cook dinner during the week, spend days driving back and forth in traffic, and have a long to do lists, which only half of the things get checked off by end of the day. Obviously, I get moments when it's fun and those are the ones I share because those are the ones I want to remember. But that probably represents maybe 5% of my day, if that!!

And even knowing that people are sharing snippets of their lives, we still can't help and compare. But we need to remember that at the end of the day, our circumstance and who we are haven't changed. We must accept who we are and embrace it. Is it easy? Heck no. But we must try, for our own sanity. And like the Girls said, if you need a break from social media, take it. You know how much self control you have!

I can say so much more about this topic. But after all this talk, what I mainly want you know is how special you are, just the way you are. If we try to value ourselves through the eyes of others or through a comparison of others, we will be doing nothing but denying our own uniqueness. This journey won't be easy. But guess what? Comparing is a choice.  We can decide to stop. So today, let's recognize our personal talents, and what makes us unique. Let's take control, and stop the madness.

All About That Bass

Can we just start with how fun this song is? I am loving the whole vibe of the song. And not only is the song fun, but it's a lot about positive body image, which I totally agree we need because from my opinion, I think we have it all screwed up at the moment. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a healthy lifestyle, but you can't help if you got a little more meat in some places. Sometimes I think we obsess over parts of our bodies because we see women on tv or simply on our social media. We all struggle with the concept of self-acceptance, I do too, but we must remember we are all made differently, and that's the beauty of it all.

Happy Tuesday! Let's keep it real.

Fruity Fashion

I know what you're thinking, "fruit???"  But trust me, all these things are so fun and perfect for summer! And of course you wouldn't be wearing all these items at once or you would look like Chiquita Banana! We don't want that. But all these items are bright and colorful that if you wear it with basics, you can make any outfit pop with these fruity fashion items!

Fruity Fashion

I especially want that skirt, and citrus purse!

Patriotic Pastry!

When it comes to celebrations, you know I'm all about it. Especially if it involves cake, and America! Two of my favorite things. haha!

So in celebration with this good ol' country's birthday, I decided to make a red white and blue cake. And guess what? You can make one too. It's not as hard as it looks, just lots of repetition.

So here's what ya need:
A cake covered in white fondant
Blue, red, and white fondant
A fondant roller
A leaf cutout
A knife
A brush & water

First, roll out your first color. I would suggest nice and not too thick.

Then you can start making your leaf cutouts. Press, and remove. Very easy. Also, I know you may be thinking why I used a leaf cut out since it doesn't scream America, but I just liked the pattern, and figured the red, white, and blue would give the patriotic vibe.

Just a note: this picture is more for example, but you would cut out the leaf cutouts on a larger piece of flat fondant so it can make the process quicker and cut out a lot!

Then with your knife, you make a line indent onto the leaf. And make sure not to press to hard and cut in between the leaf. It's more of a light press.

And there it is! Your first leaf. Now, go on and make about a hundred more! haha. Just kidding...well, maybe a hundred. I didn't count. But it is a lot!

So here's the pattern you will be creating onto the cake. Just so we are clear, this pattern will be attached to the cake. Do NOT make this pattern separately. This picture is just so you can get a better understanding of what I am doing with the leaves.

When creating your pattern, you will start from the bottom of the cake, and make your way around, overlapping the leaves slightly. And to attach the leaves, I just used a small brush with a tad bit of water. Also notice, I actually started with blue at the bottom, and created my color pattern from there.

And here's the finished cake. As you can see, I kept the patterned going even on the top of the cake. And I also made a flag garland to really spruce up the patriotic theme. I want to have going here.

So there ya have it! I told ya the leaf pattern would work. Well, I think it works. It gives it style, a makes it look polished, and best of all, it's so very easy! Just takes a little time.

Now, go on and make one so you can show all your friends how patriotic you really are!! Happy almost birthday, America! Loving the good ol' red, white, and blue!

dreaming decor

Last week I shared some pictures of my living space, and how it's currently looking. As I mentioned, there are a few things I want to add and change around.

I am always on the look out for fun decor pieces, or statement items.
Here's are a few items I want. Some are unrealistic because they are crazy expensive, but at least I have an idea as to what I want.
dreaming decor

I can not get over all these pieces, especially that awesome ottoman, and mermaid gold sculpture!

In the meantime, you can find me daydreaming about decor...
