Jonah's Christmas Wishlist

Christmas is around the corner, and I'm so very excited for Jonah to experience it! Last year was technically his first Christmas but he was only a couple months old. This year he's still too small to quite understand it all, but he likes the lights and all the decorations. And we are having fun dancing to Christmas music, watching some Christmas movies too! It's so amazing seeing things through a fresh pair of eyes.

So this year, Jonah has no real wishlist, but it is more my wishlist for stuff I think he would enjoy! I guess that's the perk of him being so small, it's like my wishlist! haha!  I still tried to make it fun for him, and not make it all clothes. Although clothes for him is always great because this kid grows too stinkin' quick!

Christmas Wishlist

Moccasins- So Jonah owns two pairs of Freshly Picked moccs that we just love, and another pair for his growing feet would be so nice! I didn't really think I would like these shoes so much, but he likes them because they are comfy, and I like them because they stay on!

Pop Up Tunnel- My sister had one of these and Jonah wasn't too sure about it, but recently we went to my sister-in-law's house and he got to play with a tunnel there, and he loved it! So i know this would be a hit!

Bookshelf- We first were needing more books, and now we need an area to store books! I think that's a good problem to have so now we need a book shelf, I would love a mounted one. This is more a gift for this organizational mama!

Cleaning Set- This Melissa & Doug set is amazing! Jonah has been wanting to use our real brooms and dust sweep and having his own would be so fun for him.

Radio Flyer Wagon- One of our favorite things to do is go on walks. We live right next to a walking path so we walk a lot, and wagon for Jonah would make it so fun for him!

Sippy Cups- These sappy cups are sooooo fun! And I know Jonah would love them. He loves new cups! haha!

Beanie- Thankfully my kid likes wearing hats and beanies and keeps them on. So I'm always on the lookout for cute beanies and I just love this one because it looks so warm for the season!

Kitchen- Jonah loves to hang out in the kitchen with me. I spend a lot of my time there. And Jonah loves opening cabinets and playing with bowls. So I think a mini kitchen like this Ikea one would be so nice for him! And Ikea also has mini pans too!

Hope this gives you some ideas for your kiddos too! I doubt we will get him all of these things but it's so fun to think about the stuff your kids would enjoy!

Our Lumberjack is One!

Hello there! I know, i know...same ol' excuse! But this season in life right now apparently isn't me blogging much. But I thought I'd share a really fun and special day! Jonah turned one! Yay! A whole year we have had the best little guy in our life. We couldn't help but throw him a bash, but not any kind of ordinary bash, A LUMBERJACK BASH!

I know I won't get many years to do what I want and Jonah will get opinions soon enough, but he's still small so mama got to pick a theme. And since his birthday is right in the middle of fall, and I love me so plaid, so why not!

The fun thing about Jonah's birthday party was that it landed on his actual birthday! And we weren't sure what were going to do and when I saw these cute invites, I decided then and there to go with a Lumberjack theme. I found these on Etsy. And we figured our house was the route to go with his party. (which meant a lot of work on my end!)

I knew I needed his outfit before I could think of decor! haha! We got his suspenders and hat from H&M, his jeans are from BabyGap, his boots are from Carter's, and his flannel shirt is Cherokee.

Our snack & cake table.

Jonah's tree trunk & plaid cake. Then I made a buttercream pancake stack smash cake!

Close up of Jonah's pancake stack smash cake I made for him!

Our backyard! I just got plaid fabric from Joanns as table runner. Added a wooden base with vintage lanterns as a center piece. It was so easy, but totally made the space feel pretty and out doorsy.

Here's a little corner of the backyard. I made a tent with supplies from Lowe's. Set up a blanket and put some Lincoln Logs for the kids to play with. I also made that felt fire and logs! We also had two jumpers too!

Cake time! His smash cake was a hit! And only my kid would use a spoon for his cake! Haha! Not as messy as we thought he would have gotten. But he sure made a big dent to the cake!

Our party favors were simple. S'mores to-go!

Here's a close up!
"take home s'more fun!" and "so plaid you came!"

Snacks ! "Don't feed the bears!"

A Chili bar felt appropriate!

Our Photo Booth area!

All our props for our photo booth I found on Amazon!

My siblings & I

And the birthday boy opening his gifts!

Thanks for stopping by Jonah's first birthday!! We feel so blessed to have been able to celebrate his life. Lord knows how much we prayed for him and now that we have him, we just feel so grateful for his life.

Cake Art

Hi friends! This week I made two cakes and they coincidently had the same sort of artsy theme. They were two different style of cakes but both had the feel of paint. I was a bit intimidated by them at first, since I don't see myself as the "artistic" type, even though cake making is a sort of art. But when it comes to painting, I don't feel like that's my strong suit and these cakes definitely reminded me of painting! I knew these cakes would be fun to make so I reminded myself of that along the way.

I made a baby shower cake for a baby girl and the cake was fun, and bright! The bottom tier reminded me of paint stokes on a painting. The colors on the bottom tier were a combo of bright and subtle colors and surprisingly went well together. And of course the fresh flowers add another element of freshness and also add more color to the cake.

As for the other cake I made this weekend, it was for a girl's 5th birthday party and the party's theme was mermaid. They mentioned they wanted a watercolor cake, and had beautiful invites for me to get inspiration from. It was so fun to make and i loved the look of this so much. I know this won't be the last time I make something like this! I got the tutorial from brit+co and it explains it so easily, and now its now one of my favorites!

downstairs bathroom

Last year when we redid our kitchen, we also somewhat redid our bathroom downstairs. It's a tiny guest bath, and we it just needed a bit of an update. We switched the larger tile flooring to hexagon tile and it changed the look quite a bit. This bathroom has gone through a bit of cosmetic change since we first got it.

This is a small glimpse to what our half bath kind of looked like when we first moved in, except that wallpaper was worse in person!!

The wallpaper in here was so bad because it was placed over another wallpaper design. When I removed the wallpaper, it actually damaged the wall because it was stuck pretty well, and it probably had been on the wall for years!

These are the tiles that I just hated, and we also switched the toiletsince this one was so short and wide!

And this is our bathroom currently. Simple gray walls, newer toilet, new vanity, and tiles! I feel like it makes more of a difference to what it used to be. I would love to eventually get a new mirror, and change the light right above the mirror as well, and get brighter lighting since this room is pretty dim. But for now, I'm more than okay with where we are now.

MEXICO

I just came back from spending a week in Mexico with my whole family. We all decided to go because my grandpa was celebrating his 80th birthday over in his home state of San Luis Potosi. That's where my parents and older sisters were born as well. I actually hadn't been there in 15 years so I knew it would be a whole new experience. Every state, and even city has their own unique vibe. So it was great to explore!

We first arrived to Guanajuato to visit. And that city stole my heart. The vibrant colors and culture are beautiful.

Then we headed to my family's home state but to another part where it's pure rain forest. It's known as La Huasteca Potosina. It's filled with waterfalls and so much lush greenery. We also went to Sir Edward James' castle in the middle of the jungle. We had quite the vision! His place is filled with natural waterfalls, pools, and surrealist concrete sculptures. Definetly my favorite place we went to in  La Huasteca.

And we finished our trip with my parents hometown, San Luis Potosi (the capital of San Luis Potosi, the state) We visited the historic centro, which I loved. And we got to visit so much family. We had a family reunion on my mom side. And at my grandpa's 80th birthday, it technically was a family reunion from my dad's side. I also got to see so many old pictures of my grandparents. I love seeing that kind of stuff. I loved exploring the city my parent's grew up in. I sometimes can't believe they left the city they grew up in, and all their family just to give me and my siblings a better life. The selflessness they had is easier to understand now that I have Jonah, and even still...it's hard to grasp. I'm truly grateful for everything I have now, and it's because of them. I cherish this trip, and the fact I got to do it with my whole family.

birthday wishlist

My birthday is a week from today and I don't know how to feel about approaching my last year in my twenties! I think I always thought when you were in your thirties, you were "old" except I'm closer to approaching that, and I feel like I was 18 not that long ago, yet I feel so much has changed in 10 years.

Anyhow, as I have gotten older, I feel like I know more who I am and what I like. So I wanted to share some things I've been eyeing this summer season.

bday wishlist

Red, White and Berries

How is the 4th of July approaching us already? I hardly can believe it. Sorry I've been MIA, (i feel like I say this every post!) Just having an 8 month baby keeps me busier than I expected! But guess what, I still manage to make sweets here and there and I promise to share them more. I cannot stop baking my heart out!

Anyhow, since cakes seem to my go-to dessert, I wanted to share a fun way to serve it up on this 4th of July! Everyone loves having their own dessert, and how many of you guys hate waiting for a cake to be cut?  I never want to be the person to cut into the cake first, or miss out on it because they didn't cut it until the very end. So these mini cakes are perfect for such a laid back relaxing event, and who doesn't want their own cake?
The key to these cakes, of course, is that they be patriotic! That's what the 4th of July is all about! So I paired some of my favorite red, white and blue yummies!

What you need:
A thin sheet of vanilla cake
Whipped Cream (best if homemade)
Strawberries
Blueberries
Coconut Shreds
Large circle cookie cutter

With a circle cookie cutter, cut out 3 even rounds of cake. In between each layer, add whipped cream. And on the top layer, top with coconut shred. Finally, top the mini cakes with the berries.

And there you have it! It's so easy and looks much more impressive than it really is! And not only is it pretty, but delicious. I'm a sucker for a cake with whipped cream! (and the coconut shreds are a perfect touch!)

Hope you all have a great 4th!! Stay safe, and make sure to show your red, white and blue!

xoxo-Priscilla
