Bakers to Follow

I love baking, and I love getting inspired by other bakers out there doing their thing. Seriously, I can look at the gals creations for hours and could only wish to have half the talent they have. Here are my favorites.

Can I just tell you how amazing her cakes are! She makes them so impressive, and I want to decorate my cakes just like her!

Enjoy Cupcakes

Everything she does not only looks so clean and perfect, but looks delicious. Her flavors are fresh and I hope to visit her bake shop in Santa Barbara to try!

Erica O'Brien

Erica O'Brien's fondant work is perfection. She makes the cleanest edges, and her designs are never over the top, but just enough. She makes the cutest cakes, and feel very feminine and sophisticated.

Alana Jones-Mann

The genius of Alana Jones-Mann is simply too much that I just envy EVERYTHING she makes. She uses buttercream, and manipulates it to create textures, and designs that I wish I would have thought of. She really is one of my favorite cake makers/designer.

Makin' Brunch Easy


Brunch is one of my favorite things in the world. I love that it's technically a late breakfast, and that's up my alley. I tend to wake up and only want coffee in the morning, and eventually get to food but I usually do oatmeal, yogurt & granola, or cereal. But it weren't just me and Jonah in the morning, Brunch would be happening every day! 

This week we had some friends over for brunch, and everything was delicious and looked great, and best part...it was stress free. So today I wanted to share 5 brunch tips if you're going to host brunch at your place! 

Plan your Menu
 I love brunch because there aren't real rules to what you can serve. Brunch allows you to serve savory or sweet as main entrees, and cocktails are okay so early in the day. An egg dish as the focal point is a good idea, and something sweeter as another dish is a must. I would definitely do a specialty drink like a mimosa, and a sparkling blood orange juice for those not drinking. And I would skip the dessert, and add some fresh fruit as another side and you're set for brunch! 

Prep the day before
It's okay to start cooking your bacon the day before if it's just going to be cut up and be used in a casserole. Or to cut all your fruit for a fresh salad for the next day. I say prep as much as you can so all you have to do is pop a few things in the oven. I would even set the table the day before if you can too. I managed to go to church in the morning, come home and still have brunch ready without breaking a sweat. 

Let your oven do the work
I made hash brown egg nest the other day when our friends come over. They were a big hit and seemed a lot fancier than it was. I basically got a muffin tin, and filled an outside layer of hash brown, and filled it with an egg and all it's yummy omelet fillings, and let it bake. They came out looking so pretty and I just garnished with parsley and chives. Making things you don't have to stress about is key. A quiche, a breakfast casserole, a frittata, or these nest is the way to go! Make it easy for yourself!

If you're going to pancake....
...go mini! I love the idea of pancakes for brunch, but flipping pancakes can take a while. So I went small with these pancakes. Why? Because they cook so fast, and you can do multiples at a time. I just stacked them and they looked darling. I toped them with some blackberries and powdered sugar and they looked so cute and fancy. And honesty, it took me 10 minutes to make on the stove! That's what I'm talking about! 


Details 
Fresh flowers on a table or even place cards are totally acceptable for brunch. Go ahead, and take your nice platters and plate your dishes. Garnish things. Beautify your brunch.

Craving Cobbler

This craving all started a few weeks ago when I went to our local Cowboy Festival, and had the most amazing peach cobbler. My whole family was obsessed. Then the following day, my dad made some, and then I just had to get my hands on making some too!

Since my mom loved it so much, I decided to make it as a Mother's Day dessert. I made it in my Staub cast iron pan since at the festival, they made it with a cast iron too. It was a big hit, but we had no leftovers and I wanted more. So yesterday I, of course, made another cobbler, but this time it was peach and blueberry cobbler.

My recipe takes about 5-10  minutes to prep and it's almost effortless to make. And of course there are so many ways to go about cobbler since cobblers come in different shapes and sizes and the one I make is very, very easy. I don't have too much time in my hands because of Jonah so I like recipes that require short cuts, or are just so easy that the oven does all the work for me. SO, you ready for the easiest cobbler...here we go!

STEPS
First, you need a large cast iron pan or if you don't have one, a square casserole pan will work.
Evenly cover the pan with a drained can of peaches. I used a 29oz can and small package of washed blueberries. 

Then you need two sticks(1 cup) of melted butter, and pour it over your peaches and blueberries.

Then in a separate bowl, mix 2 cups of flour, 2 cups of milks, 2 cups of sugar(i used 1 cup of white sugar and 1 cup of brown sugar) and 2 teaspoons of baking powder and mix into a batter. You can emblish the batter if you'd like with a bit of vanilla extract and cinnamon too! Then pour the batter over the peaches, and blueberries, and butter. Then it's ready to go into the oven!!

Make sure you preheated your oven at 350 degrees F. Once your oven is ready and warm, pop your pan in, and bake for  about 40 minutes or until you have a golden brown top and edges. 

And that's it!!! Super easy, right? Once it's cooled down a bit, serve it with some whipped cream, ice cream or just simply enjoy it alone! I hope you guys try it because it turns out delicious and it looks a lot more impressive in pan when you have guests over! Let me know if you guys try it, I'd love to hear. Be Still my Patterned Heart

I wanted to share some of the things that have been inspiring me lately! I love dresses, of all forms and sizes...but the ones that make me so weak in the knees are ones with a great bold pattern. I'm such a sucker for them. I always tend to gravitate to a unique print. I feel like it speaks volumes, and can show a side of your personality that maybe you can't vocalize.
